Oral Dysplasia Program
Oral dysplasia is a precancerous condition that presents clinically as white, red or mixed white/red lesions in or on the mouth, tongue and lips. The medical terms for these lesions are leukoplakia, erythroplakia and erythroleukoplakia, respectively. Some patients with oral dysplasia will develop oral cancer, which is why proper disease management and careful long-term follow-up are critical.
The UCSF Oral Dysplasia Program offers:
- A single point of care providing specialized expertise and long-term follow-up for patients with this potentially malignant condition
- A multidisciplinary team consisting of specialists in oral pathology, oral medicine, and head and neck surgery
- Opportunities for patients to participate in the latest, cutting-edge research which may include new imaging methods and treatments not available elsewhere
