Anthony Kim, MD, MS
Medical director of the UCSF Stroke Center
Dr. Anthony S. Kim is a vascular neurologist and medical director of the UCSF Stroke Center. He specializes in preventing strokes, managing transient ischemic attacks and strokes, and managing cerebral aneurysms – weak spots in brain arteries that can rupture. Kim primarily cares for patients in the hospital, including those in the neurology intensive care unit. At the UCSF Neurovascular Disease and Stroke Center, he provides follow-up care, initial consultations and second opinions for patients with complex neurovascular disorders. Conditions he treats include arteriovenous and cavernous malformations, carotid stenosis, and intracerebral and subarachnoid hemorrhage.
In research, Kim's interests include stroke epidemiology, prevention and diagnosis; acute management of stroke; and using information technologies to improve the quality of health care.
Kim earned an undergraduate degree at Brown University and a medical degree at UCSF, where he completed a neurology residency and served as co-chief resident. He completed a fellowship in vascular neurology and earned a master of advanced study degree in clinical research at UCSF. He is a member of the American Academy of Neurology, American Heart Association and American Stroke Association.
