Jacob Young, MD is a neurosurgery resident with an interest in neurosurgical oncology. In addition to his prior translational research investigating novel viral and immunological agents for the treatment of high grade gliomas, his clinical research focus is on optimizing functional outcomes and minimizing complications after surgery for intrinsic brain tumors, specifically by understanding the interaction between functional neural pathways and malignant cells. He works closely with mentors Manish Aghi MD PhD, Shawn Hervey-Jumper MD, and Mitchel Berger MD on projects exploring these topics. Jacob’s research accomplishments include receiving the Peter Huttenlocher & Douglas Buchanan Prize and the Brain Research Foundation Award for Neuroscience from the University of Chicago and the Harold Rosegay Award from the San Francisco Neurosurgical Society for his work. His work has been funded by the American Association of Neurological Surgeons and the Neurosurgery Research Education Fund. Furthermore, his clinical performance was recognized with the Krevan’s Award for Excellence in Patient Care at the Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital following the completion of his intern year and the Howard Naffziger Award for Outstanding Clinical Service and Care to Neurosurgical Patients at UCSF following the completion of his PGY-2 year.
