Sanjay Dhall, MD

Sanjay Dhall, MD

Dr. Sanjay Dhall is a neurosurgeon who specializes in complex spinal surgery. He cares for patients with spinal conditions including trauma, degenerative disease, tumors and deformities. He is the director of spinal neurotrauma at UCSF.

The U.S. Congress has recognized Dhall's work on medical guidelines for injury to the cervical spinal cord.

Dhall is director of the spinal neurotrauma program at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital, and he also leads UCSF's research program on spinal cord injuries. Before joining UCSF, he was chief of neurosurgery for the level 1 trauma center at Grady Memorial Hospital, teaching hospital of Emory University School of Medicine.

Dhall is a co-author of the widely utilized Guidelines for the Management of Acute Cervical Spine and Spinal Cord Injuries, as well as Guidelines for the Performance of Fusion Procedures for Degenerative Disease of the Lumbar Spine. He has frequently been a featured guest on CNN, where he has given expert commentary on brain and spinal injury in the news.
