Dr. Shabnam Peyvandi is a pediatric cardiologist with expertise in the prenatal diagnosis and management of congenital heart disease.
Peyvandi founded and co-directs the Healthy Hearts and Minds Program, a specialty program within the UCSF Pediatric Heart Center that focuses on long-term development and quality of life for children with congenital heart disease. Her team participates in national and international collaborative efforts to promote the well-being of children with this condition. She also serves as the physician lead for the cardiovascular genetics program at Benioff Children’s Hospital San Francisco, collaborating with providers in adult cardiology to provide family-based care for patients with inherited cardiovascular diseases.
Peyvandi’s funded research focuses on outcomes related to central nervous system development in children with congenital heart disease.
Peyvandi earned her medical degree from New York Medical College and completed a residency in pediatrics at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. She completed a cardiology fellowship and an advanced fellowship in imaging and fetal cardiology at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia before joining UCSF in 2013. She also has a master of advanced study degree in clinical research from the UCSF Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics.
Peyvandi is a fellow of the American Heart Association and American Society of Echocardiography. She is a nominated member of the Society for Pediatric Research. At UCSF, she has won numerous research and teaching awards.
